The following is from Rasmussen Reports.
A recent Rasmussen Reports survey finds that 61% of likely voters say they approve of drastically reducing the size of the federal government, with 37% saying they strongly approve. On the other hand, 29% of voters say they disapprove, including 15% who strongly disapprove. Another 10% say they are unsure.
When asked whether Congress will follow through on promises to cut the size of the federal government, 44% of likely voters say they believe it is at least somewhat likely, but 49% say they think it is unlikely. Among those surveyed, 12% say they believe it is “very likely,” while 17% say it is “not at all likely.”
By political affiliation, Republicans are the most likely to say they approve of reducing the federal government, with 82% expressing at least some approval. By comparison, 43% of Democrats and 60% of unaffiliated voters say they feel the same. On the question of whether Congress will deliver, 56% of Republicans, 41% of Democrats, and 34% of unaffiliated voters say they think it is at least somewhat likely.
Demographic trends show that 67% of men say they approve of reducing the federal government, compared to 56% of women. Voters earning over $100,000 annually are the most likely to say they strongly approve of the reductions.
The survey of 1,277 likely voters was conducted January 5-7, 2025, with a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points. The fieldwork was conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.
