Altai

A phone the size of today’s smartphone, it could be used to call another “Altai”, a pay phone or a regular city phone.

Altai mobile phone system, which was a pioneering mobile communication technology developed in the Soviet Union. The Altai system was introduced in 1963, and it allowed users to make calls from mobile devices that could communicate with both payphones and regular city phones. This predates the introduction of the first commercially available mobile phone by Motorola, which came out in 1973, by a full decade.

The Altai system was primarily designed for use in vehicles and was initially used in large cities like Moscow and Leningrad. The phone worked through a network of radio transmitters that connected to the regular city telephone infrastructure, making it functionally similar to what we now consider cellular networks, though it wasn’t as portable as today’s smartphones.

While it wasn’t a handheld device in the modern sense, as it was typically installed in cars or carried in larger cases, the technology behind Altai laid an important foundation for mobile communication. It was revolutionary for its time and was one of the first systems to enable long-distance communication without the need for fixed landlines, making it a precursor to the cellular phones we use today.

This piece of history is often overlooked when discussing the development of mobile phones, with Motorola’s DynaTAC 8000X often getting the spotlight as the “first” mobile phone, but the Altai system represents a significant step in mobile telecommunication history.

Saudi Arabia has resumed the Construction of World’s Tallest Building

New $1.9B Contract for Jeddah Tower with original contractor Saudi Binladin Group Co. (Nothing to see here folks. Business as usual with the Binladin family).

The Jeddah Tower project, which aims to be the world’s tallest skyscraper at over 1,000 meters, is set to resume construction after a long period of delays. A new $1.9 billion contract has been awarded to the original contractor, Saudi Binladin Group. This agreement is part of a larger plan led by Jeddah Economic Company, and the project is backed by Kingdom Holding, a firm associated with Prince Alwaleed bin Talal. The tower, once completed, will feature luxury apartments, a Four Seasons hotel, and the world’s highest observation deck. With 63 floors already built, the tower is expected to take 42 months to complete

British Military Intelligence

Barrie Trower, a former Royal Navy microwave specialist, has spoken extensively about his concerns regarding microwave radiation and its potential use in surveillance and warfare. He describes CELLDAR as a system that allegedly uses cell networks to track people and objects, functioning like radar. Trower suggests that exposure to microwave radiation from devices like cell phones and Wi-Fi could pose health risks, including headaches, infertility, and cancer.

He also claims that microwaves have been developed for military purposes, potentially causing harm to individuals. Trower is particularly critical of Wi-Fi and 5G in schools, arguing that children may be more vulnerable to radiation exposure. Despite his claims, health organizations maintain that radiation levels from these technologies are within safe limits, and many experts dispute his warnings.
