A Colombian gang leader wanted for homicide, arms trafficking, and other charges has been apprehended after being released into the U.S. by Border Patrol just months ago.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of the 29-year-old illegal alien last month in Maryland.

The fugitive was first encountered by U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) after he illegally crossed the southern border near near San Ysidro, CA, on September 14, 2023.

He was served with a notice to appear before a federal immigration judge in the future and transferred to the custody of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).

On September 16, ICE released the Colombian into the interior of the U.S.

On July 12, 2024, ICE ERO Baltimore learned the hardened criminal was “potentially residing in the Maryland area” and that Colombian authorities were seeking him for homicide, arms trafficking, and aggravated theft charges.

“The Colombian fugitive is a validated leader of the Las Colinas criminal organization based in Santa Marta, Colombia,” ICE revealed.

He was tracked down and arrested at his residence on July 31 in College Park, MD, and was being held in ICE custody as of August 2.

“This Colombian fugitive is wanted by authorities in his home country for allegedly committing some violent crimes,” ERO Baltimore acting Deputy Field Office Director Vernon Liggins said in a statement.

“He attempted to hide from justice in Maryland, and we simply cannot allow that to happen.”

Authorities continue to catch dangerous foreign criminals illegally present in the U.S., many of whom have been previously released into the country by law or immigration enforcement agencies.
