Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong came under fire this week after he held a head on stage resembling Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, just weeks after the former president narrowly survived an assassination attempt.
The aging 90s rockers’ frontman held up a Trump mask during a show Monday at Nationals Park in Washington D.C., with “idiot” scribbled on the mask’s forehead.

Crowd members were also photographed holding the mask, which one X user claimed was thrown on stage and picked up by Armstrong.
Armstrong’s stunt was labeled tone-deaf on social media, especially considering Trump nearly lost his life to a would-be assassin’s bullet earlier this month, with some suggesting the symbolic gesture was intentional.

Disgusting Display After Trump Assassination Attempt!
Here’s Billy Joe Armstrong, lead singer for Green Day, holding up a Donald Trump mask as an effigy at a concert – barely 2 weeks after Trump was almost assassinated!

Green Day had a concert here in DC last night.

They decided it’d be a good idea to hold up a severed Trump head.
Just TWO WEEKS after he was sh*t in the head.

The image was somewhat reminiscent of comedian Kathy Griffin’s inane photo-op where she held up a bloody Trump head, which was later investigated by US Secret Service as a possible death threat toward the sitting president.
The singer has also been swapping out lyrics in his popular 2004 title track, “American idiot,” from, “I’m not a part of the redneck agenda,” to, “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda.”
Green Day’s latest anti-Trump stunt comes as acoustic comedy rock duo Tenacious D apologized and declared they would cancel the rest of their tour after member Kyle Gass urged a second shooter to take a shot at former President Donald Trump, issuing a birthday wish stating, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”
Gass’ talent agency, Greene Talent, later dropped him from their representation.
Despite calls from Democrats and liberals to “lower the temperature” and “tone down the rhetoric” in the wake of the assassination attempt, just weeks later, unhinged anti-Trumpers appear to be back to their old ways.
Despite calls to 'tone down rhetoric,' deranged anti-Trumpers continue to inflame political tensions.
