Please forgive the question; I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m posting in the wrong area. I’m not trying to accuse anonymous or any other group of anything at all. I’m just very much a reddit newbie and I didn’t know where else to ask.
Onto my stupid question though. It’s something I’ve always wondered about, but never really had any clue about - I couldn’t hack my way into a wet cardboard box. Why do people get doxxed? What makes them targets?
I’m honestly not really sure why I’m asking. Apart from being part of a group of people whom you could possibly guess by looking at my username, I’m just about the most boring person you could possibly ever meet. But I suppose that’s a reason why I’m asking.
Sometimes it seems like the most random people get doxxed and it just makes me wonder. Is it something that’s generally deserved, or can it happen for no reason? Most of the doxxings I’ve seen have been on some pretty terrible people, animal abusers, pedophiles, stuff like that. That I can understand perfectly well - I still have nightmares about what happened to me when I was a kid.
But some people it makes me wonder. Did they just step on the wrong persons toes, or is there something more to it?
Sorry again about asking the question here, and also for the rather disjointed nature of this post.
Thanks in advance, all.
