I am not exaggerating. In "The Decline of the West", written over one hundred years ago, Spengler observed that all civilizations follow clear patterns of growth and decay. At a late stage, the power of MONEY rules over all, bringing the era of "democratic", reforming politics, until those politics and the money grabbers weaken the civilization so much that someone rises up to reassert basic strength and leadership... This was the era leading up to Caesar in Rome, and Spengler predicted it would last from 1800-2000 for us... Almost exactly correct, if we read the signs today... Moreover, the same era in Chinese history culminated in the unification of the separate Chinese states, and the first thing the newly imperial emperor did was BUILD THAT WALL!
I highly recommend this book. A true masterpiece. It should have been better appreciated in its day, and we might have avoided today's near-disaster. We should learn and understand history. It will give us great power. Spengler's framework is pure genius, and I find it can be applied to any idea or trend...
Godspeed pedes!
