An 18-year-old dual US-Israeli citizen was busted Thursday for the months-long series of bomb threats targeting Jewish community centers across the globe.
The teen was arrested in Israel by the country’s cyber attack unit, Haaretz reported.
The police, acting on information from the FBI and other law enforcement agencies abroad, confiscated computers and other items that allowed him to carry out the threats without being easily detected.
Israeli authorities launched an investigation after the suspect allegedly called in a threat to a New Zealand facility about six months ago, Jerusalem Post reported. He also targeted places in the US, Europe and Australia.
The suspect, who was not yet identified but lives in Ashkelon on Israel’s coast, has lived in the country for many years.
The army refused to draft him after finding him unfit for service.
The suspect’s father was also detained for questioning.
News of the suspect’s arrest came after a gag order on the case was lifted.
Earlier this month, a Missouri journalist was arrested for making at least eight threatening calls to New York-based Jewish community centers to get back at a woman who broke up with him.
Juan Thompson, 31, tried to make it seem like his ex was trying to frame him in defamatory emails that mentioned the bomb threats.
