Conor McGregor: 'The word' on the street for Floyd Mayweather fight is September
McGregor hints that his boxing showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. will take place in September. It just might be happening. Perhaps the biggest fight in combat sports history — a boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. — is being targeted for September. That's according to 'The Notorious' himself, who told Lance Pugmire of the LA Times that he expects to fight 'Money' in Autumn. “I’m ready to box. I’ve been ready for a long time. The game’s going to be in shock when I step in the ring. Trust me on that,” McGregor said. “[September] is what I’m thinking. That’s what the word is. That’s what we’re close to doing." McGregor said that he flew out to Las Vegas to negotiate face-to-face with Mayweather but claimed that the boxing icon didn't show up because he was 'petrified'. "I’ve tried to talk to Floyd. I flew to Las Vegas to have talks with Floyd and then he retired," he said. "He just doesn’t want to see me. He’s petrified. Wouldn’t you be? No one knows what to expect with me, and they shouldn’t. Because I don’t know what to expect either.” According to FOX Sports , McGregor's timeline for the Mayweather fight is accurate, as sources have revealed that the fight is being targeted for September 16, although that date is subject to change due to ongoing negotiations.
